Johannes Jourdan
Johannes Gottlob Ludwig Jourdan (10 May 1923 – 25 January 2020) was a German Protestant theologian, pastor, writer, lyricist and composer, based in Darmstadt for most of his life.
As a lyricist he collaborated with a wide range of composers in the sacred music tradition – most notably Klaus Heizmann and Siegfried Fietz, with whom he created some of the most enduring works of German Christian choral music. His texts also appeared on two children's record albums, in musicals performed in Germany, Switzerland and Russia, and across numerous poetry anthologies and publications.
In the final decade of his life, Johannes Jourdan composed 14 violin sonatas – works of quiet depth and personal reflection. These sonatas, recorded in part by violinist D. Smirnov, are released exclusively through JoMaJoMusic, alongside a selection of his songs.
His legacy is lovingly preserved by his son, composer and producer Martin Jourdan, through the JoMaJoMusic label. His music is available on all major streaming platforms.
